Recently, Kailong Hi-Tech Co., Ltd. and LiqTech — a globally renowned supplier of silicon carbide diesel engine particulate filters (DPF) and water treatment systems — signed a cooperation letter of intent. Both parties will jointly invest ¥90 million RMB to establish a joint venture company specializing in the production of silicon carbide diesel engine particulate filters (DPF). This signing marks another step forward for Kailong Hi-Tech in taking the leading position in China's engine exhaust aftertreatment system manufacturing sector.

Due to their excellent economy and power performance, diesel engines have been increasingly widely applied in recent years. However, diesel engines emit large quantities of particulate matter (PM) during operation, which seriously pollutes the environment and affects human health. As a result, many countries around the world have successively formulated regulations limiting diesel vehicle particulate emissions, with increasingly stringent limits. For soot particles from diesel engine exhaust, wall-flow diesel particulate filters (DPF) made of silicon carbide material are currently recognized as the most effective aftertreatment technology for removing soot particles, and will be widely applied in diesel-powered devices. However, due to technical and production quality reasons, China currently has no genuine silicon carbide diesel engine particulate filter manufacturers — this technology is still monopolized by foreign giants.

Starting from 2014, Kailong Hi-Tech began negotiating with LiqTech for project introduction. After multiple rounds of negotiations, both parties have now officially signed the agreement. Kailong Hi-Tech will be responsible for arranging personnel for operational planning and factory layout, while LiqTech will be responsible for arranging personnel for technical solution implementation. Product parameters and performance will be able to meet China's China V and China VI emission regulation requirements. Phase one: annual production capacity of 1 million liters, to be completed by end of 2017. Phase two: annual production capacity of 2 million liters, to be completed by end of 2018.

Kailong Hi-Tech has come a long way from manufacturing automotive exhaust heaters to building a complete, independently innovative SCR exhaust aftertreatment industrial chain today — achieving the goals of filling gaps, capturing positions, and holding ground. Through cooperation with LiqTech, the company will master silicon carbide particulate filter (DPF) technology, enhance its matching capabilities in the light-duty diesel vehicle, off-road (construction machinery, agricultural machinery), and Euro VI markets, and capture a larger market share in the automotive exhaust aftertreatment field in the future. Simultaneously, leveraging LiqTech's advanced silicon carbide ceramic membrane filtration technology, the company will enter the water treatment environmental protection sector, forming a new engine of economic growth.
