The final review of the 2021 China Automotive Industry Science and Technology Award was successfully held in Hefei, Anhui. After evaluation by the review committee, the project "Key Technologies and Applications of Exhaust Aftertreatment Systems for Automotive Diesel Engines," jointly submitted by Kailong Hi-Tech Co., Ltd. and Wuhan University of Technology, was awarded the First Prize of the 2021 China Automotive Industry Science and Technology Progress Award — the highest-level honor in the Chinese automotive industry.

Projects that advanced to the final defense included submissions from major domestic industry leaders such as China FAW Hongqi, BYD Shenzhen, NIO, CATL, and China Automotive Engineering Research Institute, with most focusing on new energy vehicles, fuel cells, autonomous driving, and intelligent connectivity.

The award-winning project of Kailong Hi-Tech is the result of more than a decade of joint industry-university-research-application efforts, supported by national key R&D programs, the Jiangsu Province Key R&D Plan, Jiangsu Province Technology Commercialization Programs, and Jiangsu Province Strategic Emerging Industries programs. It achieved major breakthroughs in complete technology for diesel engine exhaust aftertreatment systems and realized large-scale industrial application.

This project solved three major key technical challenges facing diesel vehicle aftertreatment systems: high-precision and high-reliability key component technology; precise control technology for diesel vehicle aftertreatment systems; and high-performance catalyst and preparation technology. The expert review panel of the China Society of Automotive Engineers evaluated the project as: "The research results are highly innovative, with overall technology at an internationally advanced level, and the urea metering injection system and its control technology have reached an internationally leading standard." This project meets the requirements for China VI and near-zero emission standards for diesel engines, and is aligned with the major national strategic needs of the 14th Five-Year Plan and the dual-carbon strategy targets.
