The "Key Technologies and Applications of Low-Emission Exhaust Aftertreatment Systems for Commercial Vehicles" project of Kailong Hi-Tech Co., Ltd. has won the First Prize of the 2021 China Mechanical Industry Science and Technology Award — the highest-level award in the Chinese mechanical industry. This follows the First Prize of the China Automotive Industry Science and Technology Progress Award won by Kailong Hi-Tech for its "China VI Emission Key Technology" in October this year, making it a second major win in the same period. This is also the second time the Kailong technology team has received this award, following their first win in 2013.

This project is closely aligned with major national strategic needs and medium-to-long-term science and technology development plans, including "Made in China 2025," the "14th Five-Year Plan," and the "Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality Goals." Supported by 15 national and provincial/ministerial major projects, the effort focused on three major world-class technical challenges in commercial vehicle exhaust aftertreatment systems: "difficulty in energy-saving and emission-reduction collaborative control," "SCR urea crystallization," and "high backpressure in aftertreatment systems." After more than 10 years of joint industry-university-research-application efforts, the project achieved breakthroughs in key technologies including intelligent collaborative control of commercial vehicle exhaust aftertreatment systems, urea injection and mixing, and carrier and catalyst technologies. It realized energy-saving and emission-reduction goals, eliminated urea crystallization, and reduced system backpressure, breaking foreign technological monopolies and ensuring industrial security.

The expert review panel of the China Machinery Industry Federation evaluated the project as follows: "This achievement is highly innovative, with overall technology at an internationally advanced level. In particular, the model-based integrated control system and the urea metering injection system have reached internationally leading standards." The China Internal Combustion Engine Industry Association noted: "This project has supported the implementation of China's commercial vehicle diesel engine emission standards from China IV to China VI, solving..."
