Breaking Foreign Monopoly: Using Chinese Technology to Make the Sky Bluer

Details

Zang Zhicheng loves to gaze at the deep blue sky — a blue that captivates him. When he received this year's National May Day Labor Medal, he looked up at the sky and said: "Such a beautiful blue sky must never be polluted by exhaust. I will continue using Chinese emission reduction technology to make China's sky even bluer."

Twenty-one years ago, Zang Zhicheng founded Kailong Hi-Tech Co., Ltd., plunging into the frontline of research and industrialization for China's air pollution prevention and control. He has since established China's first national-level enterprise technology center in the field of engine emission treatment, a China National Accreditation Service (CNAS) laboratory platform, and a world-class comprehensive performance testing and research base for engine exhaust systems. He formed the only complete emission treatment industrial chain in China, breaking the monopoly of multinational giants such as Bosch, Cummins, BASF, and Johnson Matthey, and making outstanding contributions to advancing China's engine environmental emission standards and air pollution control.

Twenty Years of Pursuit: Breaking Foreign Monopoly from Zero to Strength

Born in Wuxi in 1963, Zang Zhicheng is a senior engineer at the researcher level. He currently serves as Chairman of Kailong Hi-Tech Co., Ltd., Vice Chairman of the Aftertreatment Branch of the China Internal Combustion Engine Society, and Head of the Diesel Engine SCR Exhaust Aftertreatment Working Group of the National Technical Committee for Internal Combustion Engine Standardization, among other roles.

"Using Chinese technology to make the sky bluer" has always been Zang Zhicheng's dream. To that end, he founded Kailong Hi-Tech Co., Ltd. in 2001, dedicating over two decades to the engine emission treatment industry. He led Kailong Hi-Tech step by step — from manufacturing automotive exhaust heaters to building the world's only complete independent SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) exhaust aftertreatment innovation chain — breaking long-standing foreign technological monopolies, filling the domestic gap in automotive exhaust treatment, achieving a leap from follower to competitor to industry leader, and growing into a frontrunner in China's engine components sector.

On the eve of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, when Beijing implemented China IV emission standards, Kailong Hi-Tech won the bid for Olympic vehicle exhaust treatment, launching the company onto the national stage.
